Yahoo News reports that Pat Robertson, the 76 year-old ultra right wing religious broadcaster claims to have leg pressed 2,000 lbs, when he was a slip of a lad of 73. Now, just so you understand how monumental a feat that is, I wanted to put that in perspective:
That is one ton, that Pat has reportedly leg-pressed. Or the weight of 10 guys who haven't been on a diet. Or almost the weight of a fully fuelled Mazda Miata. Or the payload of a Ford F250 truck.
Also, this happens to be 700lbs more than the current world record for the leg press, held by a football player. How does he do it? Robertson credits his Herculean strength to his age-defying shake, the recipe for which he offers on his website. The shake was also being sold by GNC, the health supplement and vitamin retailer.
I decided I had to have Pat's age-defying protein shake. If it could work these wonders for a 76 year old, I could not help conjuring up visions of what it could do for a much younger me. A quick trip to the local GNC store solved that problem.
GNC has pulled the product from its shelves and does not offer it any more. The girl behind the counter could not offer any reasons as to the withdrawal of the product.
Curses! My hopes of the world quivering at my feet foiled again!
I see the dark hand of the Justice League in this. They just didn't want mere mortals empowered by Pat Robertson's age defying protein shake developing super-human strength. Where would super-heroes like Superman, Batman and Green Lantern be, if everyone started to leap tall buildings in a single bound (after a quick slug of Pat's shake of course)? Not very super.
In other news, DC Comics has resurrected Batwoman - this time she's a lesbian socialite by day and crime fighting femme fatale by night. I am all for diversity in our super-heroes. Aren't you?
